The first display of the collections of the Galleria Comunale d’Arte Moderna was in 1925 in Palazzo Caffarelli’s rooms. Later in 1938 it was provisionally closed and was reopened in 1963 in Via Nazionale in the the Palazzo delle Esposizioni. And at last, in January 1995 the gallery was inaugurated.
The gallery is located in the XVII century convent of the barefooted Carmelites connected to the XIV century Church of S. Giuseppe a Capo le Case.<
The Galleria Comunale d’Arte Moderna offers to visitors masterpieces of the municipal collection datable from 1883 to 1945 presented by Bolognese and Emilian art and a foundation of Italian informal works. On three floors the gallery hosts more than four thousand works by important artists.
Visitors can enjoy in the Galleria Comunale d’Arte Moderna works by Fortunato Depero “Polenta a fuoco duro”, Enrico Trampolini “La bullfight”, “Sailor in space”, representing the futurist movement or "Le vergini savie e le vergini stolte" by Giulio Aristide Sartorio(triptych on a table), landscape "Carri di fieno a Terracina", or oil paintings "Portrait of Nathan" and "The doubt" by Giacomo Balla, or single oil painting portraying a "Contest of Gladiators" by Giorgio De Chiricoor eclectic modern masterpieces by Van Gogh, Jackson Pollock, Monet, Klimt, Modigliani, Cézanne and Rodin. Besides, gallery offers great sculptures by Canova and gives a possibility to satisfy a comprehensive view of 19th-century Italian and European painting.
Expressionistic Roman School movement is represented by "Demolizione in Via Giulia" and "11 Cardinal Decano" of Scipione.
There are many other artists and excellent works, stunning and charming.
